SPEAK GARDEN PROJECT

For over twenty years, Students Promoting Environmental Action in Knoxville has worked to educate students on environmental issues + provide experiences to connect members with sustainable practices. SPEAK Garden is one of the most immersive in educating students on organic urban farming practices while donating all produce to students, the Culinary Institute + food pantries on campus.

Through two grants from the Tennessee Green Fee, one in 2021 + the other in 2022, we have been able to implement more of an infrastructure into this completely student-led endeavor. We have created a perennial herb garden, established irrigation lines on a solar powered timer, set up a three bin compost system, provided more tools, and increased our yields from season to season.
